“Modern research reveals how meditation turns off our default network (a neural pathway that keeps the thinking mind overly active in conditioned patterns and recursive thinking). Research also shows how meditation turns on our attention, control and present-centered networks. Experiencing these neural pathways helps us to focus, opens us to insight and creativity, and helps us go beyond our usual habit of feeling ourselves as limited and separate individuals. We are able to experience ourselves as vast, spacious and interconnected with all of life.” Dr. Richard Miller--Founder of the Integrative Restoration Institute and iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation
From a spiritual perspective, it is believed that meditation enables us to connect with our underlying essential nature which is one with the Universal Life Force. Qualities of our essential nature include unchanging equanimity, well-being, peace and joy. When we are connected to this essence of who we are at our core, we experience a sense of value and purpose. We also have a foundation of wholeness and goodness from which to address “problems” (such as past hurts and traumas, anxiety, loss and depression) without feeling overwhelmed by strong feelings/pain.
My meditation classes offer a combination of mindfulness, iRest Yoga Nidra meditation, guided imagery and focused work with a heartfelt intention.
